USC’s Next Coach: Eric Musselman of Arkansas

The University of Southern California (USC) Trojans managed to prevail over Arkansas and use coach Eric Musselman after they made a statement on Thursday.

Musselman Takes the Helm

Musselman parted his way with the Razorbacks – which was the third university he was coaching after wearing the head coach garb at Arkansas after being a regular at SMU until he left for USC basketball.

“There aren’t enough words to describe how anointed we feel having the chance to go to USC,” said Musselman. “I am so excited that I will be introduced at a news conference on Friday.” “We remain focused on the growth and maintenance of the standards that make our Trojan Family special. Musselman’s Background

Yet, at 59, he is having a bad year especially when compared to his great season in 2019 when he led the team to the Final Four. While the latter managed to complete the season with 16-17 overall record and 6-12 in the SEC, he led the team to reach Elite Eights and Sweet 16 in his first three years as the head coach at university. During its last 12 games int he 2020-21 season the Razorbacks of Arkansas won 11 games to finish the regular season, but they didn’t have enough to defeat the Baylor which then claimed the title of national champion

They faced some rosterturnover into the upcoming campaign, but still finished with a 14-16 record, and they reached Elite Eight before they excused to Duke. Last year Arkansas had a good run but it due to this head on the way to the final four it ended up seeding eighth in the NCAA Tournament. Having dispatched Illinois in the opening game, the Hogs, in the following round, heaved the top-seeded Kansas into the orbit of the Muckeymouth moon, earning their spot in the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 1996.

During his five years at Arkansas, Musselman won over 100 games and maintained the impressive record of 111-59.

USC’s High Expectations

Mike Musselman is known as a builder of successful programs and is very passionate about developing winning teams. This was revealed by USC’s Athletic Director, Jennifer Cohen.

“As far as the culture, Eric embodies just the kind of Hellenistic character – heart, gall, and everything that the Hellenism is about” Cohen asserted. “It is through the influence of unity and community that he links the Trojan community as well as USC Men’s Basketball. Our program will be moved to a higher level as the team moves into a new phase with USC Men’s Basketball.The best person for this task is Eric Musselman who will take us to success in the coming days.”

As the Pac-12 schools, USC will become one of the four members who are making up an 18-team league together with UCLA, Washington, and Oregon which is set to start in the summer of 2022.

Changing Roster Dynamics
