German club Bayer Leverkusen extended their incredible unbeaten streak to 47 games across all competitions with a dominant 2-0 victory over Roma in the first leg of the Europa League semifinals.
This win marked revenge for Leverkusen’s defeat to Roma in the same stage last season, which was their last loss in Europe.
Leverkusen took an early lead on a counterattack after a failed pass from Roma’s defense. Florian Wirtz slotted the ball home calmly to put the visitors ahead. Midfielder Robert Andrich added another goal later in the second half with a long-range strike.
Roma, despite early pressure with a header hitting the crossbar, struggled to break through Leverkusen’s strong defense. This loss puts them in a difficult position going into the second leg.
In the other Europa League semifinal, Atalanta and Marseille drew 1-1.
